Coronavirus India: Ad to sell Statue of Unity uploaded on OLX, case filed

ST Staff

In a bizarre situation that has come at fore, an unidentified person put up the Statue of Unity in Gujarat for sale in OLX. Many people across the country are generously contributing towards the coronavirus relief funds. However, someone obviously has felt that it wasn't enough. It takes us back to the Bunty aur Babli plot where the conmen managed to sell off the Taj Mahal.

A case was filed against an unknown person in Gujarat for placing an advertisement on online platform OLX to 'sell' the Statue of Unity, located in Kevadiya in Narmada district of Gujarat for Rs 30,000 crore, to meet the government's expenses for hospitals and medical infrastructure to battle the coronavirus crisis.

"Emergency! Selling Statue of Unity because of urgent money required for the hospitals and healthcare equipments" read the description of the alleged listing.

Soon after it was posted, the advertisement was taken off the website. A case of cheating and forgery has been registered in Kevadiya. "Despite him not being authorised to sell government property, this unidentified person posted the advertisement on OLX to defame the government and mislead people," stated a release from the chief administrator of the Statue of Unity.
