Pune railway station goes cashless

Sushant Ranjan

Pune: Following mission Cashless India, Pune railway division has started digital transaction facility at all stations under its jurisdiction.

“Pune railway division has enabled 100 per cent digital transaction at Pune, Kolhapur and Miraj stations. All Passengers Reservation Systems (PRS), Unreserved Ticketing Systems (UTS), luggage, parcel, goods shed counters and departmental catering units in the above stations have been provided with Point Of Sales (POS) machines to enable digital transactions,” said BK Dadabhoy, DRM, Pune.

Besides this, private contractors are also using Paytm payment account facilities to enable digital transactions, said Patil. Indian Railways has tied up with State Bank of India (SBI) for this exercise, which has also stepped up its efforts in installing the PoS machines.

With a view to promote cashless transaction in Indian Railways, the Ministry has decided to install 10,000 POS machines, in association with State Bank of India, at various locations of Indian Railways i.e. PRS locations, UTS locations, parcel or goods locations.

Toilets and water vending machines, however, will continue to accept cash for now. “We are discussing to make even these services cashless,” said Dadabhoy.

“Now, everyone is going for cashless transactions. Before introducing these facilities, we were instructed by the Railway Board to identify the locations with high transactions and then we provided POS machines at these spots on priority,” said Krishnath Patil, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (SDCM).

Commuters can renew their monthly passes by paying fare through debit/credit cards, officials said.
