SPPU to hold int’l meet on condensed matter physics

Sakal Times

Pune: The department of physics of the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has organised a three-day international conference on ‘Recent Advances in Condensed Matter Physics and Complex System’ from October 30 to November 1.

Leading researchers and scientists from Indian Institute of Science (IISC), Bengaluru, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research and Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and national research institutes and central universities, including five from USA, Sweden and France, will deliver talks based on their current research contributions.

Condensed matter physics and complex systems encompass a wide range of phenomena and materials, which are interesting not only for a fundamental understanding of the underlying physics, but also for application in diverse areas.

The talk in the conference will deal with energy-related applications like generation and storage of hydrogen, cathode materials in fuel cell and Mg-ion batteries, organic donor-acceptor molecular conjugates in organic solar cells, covering a wide range of materials, as well as length scales from molecules and cluster to bulk.

The main focus will be on use of density functional theory and other theoretical frameworks for modeling new class of materials, including their design and their functionalisation for applications in materials science and device physics, experiments to understand the electronic structure and properties of materials, and topics dealing with non-linear dynamics and complex systems, statistical mechanics and superconductivity.

The talks are open to researchers and science students. The schedule of the talks is available on the department’s website.
