Since 2021, we celebrate annually to honour the birth anniversary of the tribal freedom fighter Baghwan Birsa Munda.
Born on November 15, 1875, in Jharkhand, honoured as Bhagwan (God) by tribals for his courage and leadership in fighting against British Rule.
The day celebrates the rich tribal heritage and culture and recognized significant contributions of tribal in history and freedom struggle.
This year is celebrated as Janajatiya Gaurav Varsh to mark 150th birth anniversary of Birsa Munda
He led the Ulgulan (great tumult0 movement against the British to protect the land, forest and water rights of his people.
He challenged discriminatory laws and social evils, advocating for social reforms, education and dignity. His movement aimed to establish self rule (Munda Raj).
Birsa Munda was capture in 1900 and died in same year in Ranchi prison at the young age of 25.
