Manswi Panchbhai
Shankar (24 December 1978 – 18 September 2025), known professionally as Robo Shankar, was a popular Indian actor & comedian, known for his work in Tamil cinema & television.
Born & brought up in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, he gained fame for his unique “robot dance” style, which earned him the nickname “Robo.”
Starting his career as a mimicry artist and stage performer, he rose to prominence through TV comedy shows like Kalakka Povathu Yaaru? before transitioning to films.
He appeared in over 80 Tamil movies, often in supporting or comedic roles, in films such as Maari, Vaayai Moodi Pesavum, and Viswasam.
Besides acting, he also worked as a dubbing artist and TV anchor, showcasing his versatility.
Experiencing jaundice & weight loss, he was hospitalized following a collapse on set, with the illness resulting in complications affecting multiple organs.
Passed away at the age of 46 at GEM Hospital in Chennai due to health issues. His passing was grieved by fans, and industry figures, with tributes from Kamal Haasan, Dhanush, & others.
He left a lasting mark on Tamil entertainment through his unique comic timing, TV charisma, and memorable film roles. His journey from mimicry to mainstream stardom inspired many, & his untimely death left a void in the industry.
