Sandhya Shantaram was a celebrated actress of the golden era of Indian cinema. She starred in several acclaimed films made by her husband, filmmaker V. Shantaram.
She is best remembered for her roles in Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje, Navrang, Do Aankhen Barah Haath, and Pinjara, where her performances left audiences spellbound.
Despite having no formal dance training, Sandhya learned classical dance to perform alongside Gopi Krishna in Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje, earning critical acclaim.
Sandhya was not only V. Shantaram’s wife but also his muse. Together, they created cinematic magic that pushed the boundaries of storytelling and visual style.
Known for her powerful screen presence and expressive performances, Sandhya appeared in select films, preferring quality over quantity throughout her career.
Sandhya passed away at her Mumbai residence due to age-related ailments. She was 94. Her final rites were performed at Shivaji Park’s Vaikunth Dham.
