What is SIR?

It is a exercise conducted by Election Commission of India to update the voter list.

What is Goal?

To create 100% accurate, error-free Electoral Rolls. To reduce ghost voters and multiple registrations.

By Whose Authority?

Legal basis of SIR lies in constitution. Article 314 of constitution and section 21(3) of Representation of People Act, 1950, this exercise is conducted.

What's the Method?

It is not a annual update. In this process Booth Level Officers (BLOs) visit every home to collect and verify data.

Target for Inclusion

Targets of this exercise are mainly new voters, missing voters and migrants.

Target of Deletion

This exercise is plan to remove duplicate, ineligible, shifted or deceased voters from the rolls.

Documents Verification

In this process voters must submit valid documents to prove age, citizenship and residence.

Significance

This process should be impartial to sustain and uphold 'One Person, One Vote', principle in democracy.
