World Sight Day highlights key vision problems like cataracts, glaucoma, refractive errors, diabetic retinopathy, and age-related macular degeneration.
Adhere to the 20-20-20 guideline. Frequently blink when using digital devices. Ensure adequate lighting while reading. Keep a screen distance of 20 to 24 inches. Regularly take breaks from electronic devices.
To keep your eyes healthy, include foods like carrots, leafy greens (spinach, kale), omega-3-rich fish (salmon, mackerel), citrus fruits, and eggs, which are packed with lutein and zeaxanthin.
Put on sunglasses that block UV rays. Refrain from touching your eyes with unclean hands. Apply lubricating eye drops if you encounter dust. Wear protective glasses while cycling outside.
Annually, or if: Your vision alters unexpectedly, you have diabetes or hypertension, you spend over 6 hours daily on screens, or you encounter eye discomfort, floaters, or flashes.
Symptoms like blurred or double vision, frequent headaches, eye strain, difficulty seeing at night, or watery/dry eyes shouldn’t be ignored, as they may indicate vision problems. Regular eye checkups are important to maintain eye health.
