‘The experience of working out outdoors is different’

Not many know that former beauty queen and actress Lopamudra Raut has been an athlete and played different sports. Therefore fitness comes naturally to her.

“I was a very active child and have won a lot of awards. I have always seen my father workout and do yoga. He used to drop me at sports classes early in the morning. Somewhere, he has also inspired me a lot,” she says, adding, “I was the captain of my college basketball team and used to be mostly on the court. Later, I started gymming and swimming.”

Lopa rues that Mumbai does not have many playgrounds and therefore she is not able to play outdoor games.

The former Bigg Boss contestant says that she loves working out and religiously dedicates certain hours to it.

Over the years, her workouts have changed, she admits. “Earlier, when I was into sports, I used to do lot of running. Somewhere that has helped me develop a certain kind of body type. So I am grateful for having the childhood that I had,” she says. Now, she does more of indoor training and focuses on weight training. “Gym workouts are fun but the experience of working out outdoors is different,” she says.

Lopa says that she knows many people who do not belong to the fitness industry and yet are fit and dedicated towards leading a healthy lifestyle. “It’s not about profession but individual health,” she maintains.

Like all health freaks, Lopa believes that maintaining a healthy life is more of eating right and then working out. “I am a foodie. I like to eat different types of food, local cuisines of places which I visit. But I try to balance it out. I avoid carbs for dinner or if I feel my dinner is going to be healthy, I have it early. I always keep a watch on my diet and do not consume sugar. If I feel like having sweets or tea, I drink black tea with ginger, elaichi and jaggery. I also avoid salt. I try bringing small changes in my diet. If your eating habits are not right, everything else is a waste,” she says.

She shares that sometimes for actors, the diet depends on the place they are shooting in. “Sometimes, you are shooting in remote locations where there are no hotels or restaurants that will serve the food that you eat. Recently, I was shooting in Vrindavan in UP where only vegetarian food was available. So I went for that,” says the actress, adding that for her, breakfast matters the most.
