Prime Minister Narendra Modi in an address to the nation asked citizens to not let their guard down. “Many people are seen venturing and travelling to fulfill their responsibilities, to speed up life again. If you are inattentive, travelling out without a mask, you are putting yourself, your family, your children and the elderly in the same crisis."

“Until a COVID-19 vaccine is developed, we cannot let our guard down. Years later, we will see the work that is being done now on a war footing to save humanity,” he added.

PM Modi further said, “In a fight against coronavirus, right from Janata Curfew, all Indians have played a vital role. India has significant recovery rate than that of other countries in the world. We need not forget that the lockdown is completed but COVID-19 is still making its mark in the nation. With efforts of every Indian including healthcare staff from last 7-8 months, India is in a stable situation where the recovery rate has also increased significantly.”

It was Modi's seventh address to the country since the coronavirus outbreak in the nation. In the last address on June 30, he had declared extension of the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY), an initiative aimed at providing free ration to 80 crore people.
