LokSabha 2019: Modi hits out at Cong rule for not testing anti-satellite missile despite capability

Kendrapara/Balasore (Odisha): Prime Minister Narendra Modi Tuesday hit out at Congress for not testing the anti-satellite missile despite having the capability as the previous governments were only concerned about serving the interest of a "namdar" (dynast) family and not the country's security.

He said his government has demonstrated India's space power when the anti-satellite missile was launched.

Modi asserted that the Congress and opposition parties are spending sleepless nights as the 'lahar' (wave) for the BJP has become a 'lalkar' (challenge) for them after the first two phases of elections.

The Prime Minister was addressing two election rallies in Kendrapara and Balasore Lok Sabha segments. This was Modis sixth election programme in Odisha where the saffron party is trying to increase its tally significantly. Odisha has a total of 21 Lok Sabha seats.

Earlier, he had addressed poll meetings at Jeypore in Koraput district, Bhawanipatna in Kalahandi, Sonepur in Bolangir district, Sundergarh and Sambalpur, besides holding a massive roadshow and public meeting in Bhubaneswar.

While BJP national vice-president Baijayant Panda is in the fray in Kendrapara, the party has fielded its firebrand leader Pratap Sarangi in Balasore Lok Sabha seat. Polling for these seats will be held in the fourth phase on April 29.

"Balasore's name has been recorded in history, the anti-satellite missile was launched from this place. The previous governments had shied away from demonstrating the country's defence capability as they were busy serving the interests of a 'namdar' family," the prime minister said.

Asserting that India is now the fourth country in the world to have carried out the anti-satellite missile test, Modi said, "We have emerged as a space super power after having achieved supremacy on land, in water and air."

Hitting out at the opposition parties, he said, "While the whole country is rejoicing the success of the Mission Shakti, it is pinching the mahamilawatis (adulterated grouping) who are unhappy."

"From mobile to missile, everything is now controlled from the space. Therefore, space security is essential, a fact that was ignored by previous governments," he stated.

Modi also hit out at opponents for criticising him after he announced the successful launch of the anti-satellite missile.

"Opposition parties argue that Modi should have kept it (successful test) a secret. Friends, why should we keep it a secret? Did we commit a theft ? Did we acomplish the feat by looting anyone? Have we harmed anyone?," he said.

With the country achieving this new status in space, others will think several times before making any evil design against India's satellites because our missiles are in a state of readiness, the prime minister said.

Stating that BJP's idea of a new India is clear, Modi said "it is jai jawan, jai kisan, jai vigyan and jai anusandhan."

Referring to the first two phases of polls already held, Modi claimed the Congress and opposition parties are spending sleepless nights as the strong 'lahar' (wave) for the BJP has now become a 'lalkar' (challenge) for them.

"Lahar nehin ye lalkar hai, Phir ek bar Modi sarkar hai (this is not a wave but a challenge, once again Modi government will be formed). I haven't received so much adulation and love even in 2014," he said, claiming that the response in the first two phase of polls indicate that people are favouring BJP over other parties.

Emphasising that not a single charge of corruption has surfaced against the BJP-led government in the past five years, Modi said those who have been levelling false allegations have found themselves in the dock.

"Voters are now teaching those liars a lesson. The Congress and other opposition parties are now in a state of shock. They are trying to find new excuses to target and abuse me," the prime minister said.
Asserting that people want a strong government capable of giving a fitting reply to Pakistan right inside its territory and wipe out terrorism, he said no other political party except the BJP can meet people's aspirations.

The prime minister also mounted a scathing attack on Naveen Patnaik-led BJD government in Odisha over the spate of pre-poll violence that rocked the state and claimed that BJD's defeat in the ongoing election is certain.

"The Patnaik-led BJD is only bothered about grabbing power, development has never figured its list of priorities. The people of Odisha will bid the BJD government farewell, they are wiser than the politicians who have been ruling the state. Naveen babu, it's time for you to go," Modi added.

Modi urged the people of Odisha to press the lotus symbol button with both hands, one for the Lok Sabha elections and the other for Assembly polls.

Assembly election in Odisha is also being held along with Lok Sabha polls. While polling for first two phases were held on April 11 and 18, third phase took place on Tuesday and fourth phase voting is slated for April 29.
