Good news for commuters ahead of the festive season, the Ministry of Railways have decided to run 392 special trains. The trains will be operated between 20 October to 30 November. As the country nears the festivals such as Navratri, Dussehra, Diwali, Indian Railways decided to issue special trains for commuters.
On Monday, the Northern Railway announced 40 more trains, including the Shatabdi Express, Duranto and Rajdhani Express.
The ticket fare applicable for these services will be that of the earlier special trains permitted to ply by the ministry, said Indian Railways. The schedule of these trains will be as per regular trains. The ministry said in a statement Zonal Railways that it will notify their schedule well in advance.
The decision was taken as Indian Railways is expecting a rush of passengers during the upcoming festivals. The Ministry in the statement said, these special trains will run for destinations such as Patna, Kolkata, Varanasi and Lucknow among others, to cater to the demand during Durga Puja, Dussehra, Diwali and Chhatt puja. Till now, the railways has pressed into service more than 300 mail and express trains which are now running regularly across the nation.
However, officials made clear that these new festival special trains, however, will operate only till November 30 and will not have a continued run.
