Pune: Kinetic Group Chairman Arun Firodia on Friday emphasised that the policy of scrapping the vehicles after 15 years can be substituted with changing their mechanism into electrical vehicles.

He was delivering the inaugural speech of the 18th Pune Auto Expo at Ganesh Kala Krida Indoor Stadium Complex with the theme of ‘Eco Friendly Transportation for Smart Cities’.

“Auto industries have played a major role in the nation’s growth. Electrical vehicles are the only solution to face the problems of petrol cost and pollution. Installation of battery charging stations and manufacturing of batteries under ‘Make in India’ policy will lead to new business opportunities and employment,” Firodia said.

“If the old vehicles are converted into electric vehicles, there will be no chance of pollution. It is not easy to buy new vehicles in current condition. The conversion of old vehicles into e-vehicles will be convenient. The costs of maintenance and breakdown will not arise. The government should provide encouragement for converting old vehicles into e-vehicles,” he said.

At the expo, as many as 50 stalls have been put up by manufacturers and marketers from all over India. These include cars, two- and three-wheelers, auto components and spares, alternative fuel and fuel systems, service equipment and tools, research and development, automotive tires,  and services and publications.

Central Institute of Road Transport (CIRT), All India Rubber Industries Association (AIRIA), Regional Transport Office (RTO), Deccan Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture, Indian Institute of Material Management, Pune Automobile Dealers Association, Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC), Pimpri Chinchwad Small Industry Association and Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) and Scooter Motorcycle Repairs Research Association have put up their stalls.
