Pune: Academic year for post-graduation to be pushed beyond November 18?

Pune: Classes of the first-year undergraduate and postgraduate students will start from November 1 with the University Grants Commission (UGC) approved a revised academic calendar for the 2020-21 session.

In case there is any delay in declaration of results of the qualifying exams for admission, the universities can commence the academic session by November 18, the UGC said. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has directed the universities in the state to start the academic year from November 18. However, after the results of the final year examinations are announced by the universities, the question arises how the admission process for the postgraduate degree will be completed in the next academic year.

The final year examinations of the Maharashtra state universities will continue till October 31. Universities are allowed to start the academic year from November 18. Vice-Chancellor of Savitribai Phule Pune University Dr Nitin Karmalkar said, "The results of the final year exams will be announced in the first week of November. But postgraduate admissions can take at least twenty-five days.

“Results will be announced soon. However, the process of filling up the application, announcing the merit list, implementing the actual admission will not be possible in three weeks.” SP College Principal Dr Dilip Sheth said. Dr Bhushan Patwardhan, Vice President, UGC said, “The idea behind the revised schedule is to complete the educational process, maintain quality, safeguard the health and safety of the students. However, universities are expected to start the academic year as soon as possible by completing the postgraduate admission process.”
