Rs 25 lakh collected by Sakal Relief Fund

Pune: Readers of Sakal have come forward to help flood-affected families in Kolhapur, Satara and Sangli by donating generously to the Sakal Relief Fund. Till now, Rs 25 lakh has been collected at Sakal offices all over the State, where people have donated money for relief and rehabilitation work all through the weekend.

The credit for such a huge amount goes to people who contributed varied amounts according to their capacity -- right from Rs 10 to Rs 1 lakh -- for the welfare of the affected families in these cities.

Some decided to give money saved for their children, some parted with their pension funds, while some donated a part of their life savings.

The Sakal Relief Fund has pledged Rs 1 crore for people affected due to floods and has urged people to come forward with whatever donations they can give for this cause.

Various organisatiosn, business establishments and Ganesh mandals have come forward to help the community in distress.

Sakal Media Group has now begun the process of making sure that the donation reaches the needy in Kolhapur, Sangli and Satara, where flood water has started receding. The damage done by nature’s fury is slowly being assessed.

Apart from cash, people have come forward to donate medicines, blankets, food grains and books, while many volunteers and NGOs have also contacted Sakal to ensure that relief material is distributed as soon as possible.
