PUNE: The State government has cancelled road widening of two city roads located in Ganeshkhind and Kothrud and rejected a proposal to build another road in Bibvewadi following a proposal by local representatives.
The State Urban Development Department issued a notification concerning three roads mentioned in Pune’s Development Plan (DP). Under the The Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966, Section 37A, the State government has power to permit temporary change of user of DP reservation. The government has the right to make minor modification in final DP. The government has called for suggestions and objections from the public within 30 days for the changes.
The State government stated in its order dated October 30, 2019, that the road passing through Ganeshkhind Road in east direction and connecting to Range Hills area should not be widened. In the DP, the road width is 24 metres, while now, it is 18 metres wide. The government has given the reason that there is development on both sides of the road, which passes through the defence area. So, the width of 18 metres should be maintained.
Another road mentioned is located in Ideal Colony in Kothrud. In the DP, its road width is mentioned as 18 metres, whereas the government decided to keep it at 12 metres as both sides of the road have been developed.
The State government cancelled the DP proposed 24-metre wide road in Bibvewadi area. The reason given was that there is an alternative road and the DP proposed road is passing through hilltop-hill slope area.
