World Teacher’s Day

World Teacher’s Day has been held annually on 5th October to celebrate teachers around the globe since 1994. It marks the anniversary of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation on the Status of Teachers.

It establishes benchmarks for teachers’ rights and responsibilities, as well as standards for their training, professional development, recruitment, employment, and working and learning conditions

It is a day to honour teachers for shaping education, while also reflecting on the support they need to fully realize their potential and reimagining the future of the profession worldwide.

World Teachers’ Day is jointly organized in collaboration with the International Labour Organization (ILO), UNICEF, and Education International (EI).

This year, World Teachers’ Day will focus on the theme “Recasting Teaching as a Collaborative Profession,” emphasizing how collaboration can transform teachers, schools, and entire education systems.

Teachers are central to education, fostering learning, inclusion, and innovation in schools and communities. However, many lack supportive structures that nurture their teaching methods, professional autonomy, growth, and well-being.
