Pune: The Embassy of Costa Rica in India is soon likely to have a promotion officer who will actively engage with Indian industry in order to increase trade and industrial relations between both the countries.

The Ambassador of Costa Rica, Mariela Cruz said that she has requested the Costa Rican Ministry of External Commerce to appoint a promotion officer in India.

Speaking to Sakal Times, Cruz said that the Information Technology (IT) industry is flourishing.

‘We already have some Indian IT companies like Infosys in Costa Rica and we would love to have more Indian industries over there. I have requested the Ministry of External Commerce to appoint a promotion officer to be placed at the Embassy to enable and guide Indian industries in setting up at Costa Rica. We have 40 promotion officers placed at our 40 Embassies across the globe who are facilitating set up of foreign industries in Costa Rica,’ sheexplained.

She also said that she has asked the Costa Rica government to appoint some Honorary Consuls in major Indian cities to further strengthen the relations between both the countries.

Cruz further stated that she has already requested for smoother VISA processing in order to enable exchanges between the people of both the countries.

On educational exchanges, Cruz mentioned that she has held meetings with the Vice-Chancellor of Delhi University.

‘The Vice Chancellor has offered a list of possible areas under which teachers from Costa Rica can travel to India for various short-term courses, post graduate degrees or to obtain PhD.’ She said. ‘Apart from that, we are in talks with private universities here as well to facilitate exchanges,’ she added.
