Government Youth Scheme: The Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS) launched by the central government provides a great opportunity for the youth of the country to gain practical work experience in renowned companies across the nation. Through this scheme, which started as a pilot project last October, young people are getting valuable internship opportunities in leading companies across the country. Information about this scheme has been provided by the central government itself in Parliament.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman informed the Lok Sabha that in the first phase of the scheme, companies provided more than 127,000 internship opportunities. In this phase, a total of 621,000 applications were received from 181,000 youths. Out of these, 60,000 youths were given more than 82,000 offers. Among them, 28,000 youths accepted the offers, and approximately 8,700 youths have actually started internships.

Great Response for Internships in the Second Round

In the second round that started on January 9, 2025, a large number of youths participated. This round was organized for opportunities not remaining in the first round. 327 companies across the country provided 1.18 lakh internship opportunities in 735 districts. In this round, 2.14 lakh youths made 4.55 lakh applications.

By July 17, 2025, companies have made over 71,000 offers, of which more than 22,500 offers have been accepted. Some offers are still being made, and candidates are accepting them, as clarified by the Finance Minister.

Golden Opportunity for Internships in Top 500 Companies

The PM Internship Scheme announced in the 2024-25 Union Budget aims to provide internships to 1 crore youths in the country's top 500 companies over the next five years. This scheme started as a pilot project on October 3, 2024. The target is to provide 1.25 lakh internships in the first year itself. This scheme is being implemented with the cooperation of state governments, industry associations, and educational institutions.

Who can apply?

Under this scheme, young people aged 21 to 24 can apply, who are currently not in full-time employment or education.

Educational Qualification:

Completed high school or higher secondary

ITI certificate or Polytechnic diploma

Graduate: BA, B.Sc, B.Com, BBA, BCA, B. Pharma, etc.

How much money is received in the PM Internship?

During the internship under this scheme, 5000 rupees are received per month. Additionally, 6000 rupees are given at the time of joining. Out of these 5000 rupees, 4500 rupees are provided by the central government and 500 rupees by companies (from CSR funds). If an intern's work is exceptionally good, companies can increase their CSR fund. More important than money is the invaluable experience of working for one year in the country's top 500 companies through this scheme.
