5 ideas to celebrate Mother’s Day from a distance

With salons, shopping malls and gifting arcades all shut, celebrating Mother’s Day in a lockdown is a real challenge. Mother’s Day has always been about celebrating the self-love of a mother for her children. It celebrates her endless care for us, since the day we are born, or even before that. It is also about appreciating your mum for all her efforts and showing her, you care.

The usual hits, on Mother’s Day, are a salon session or a shopping spree.

But with salons, shopping malls and gifting arcades all shut, celebrating Mother’s Day in a lockdown is a real challenge. Sending care packages is entirely out of the question for now, and so are any online orders.

Also surprising your mother isn’t an option, especially when you aren’t in the same city, let alone the same house. A long-distance relationship is never ideal, is it? But worry not because we have some ideas to make your mother feel special despite the long distance.

Here are some ideas on celebrating a fulfilling long-distance Mother’s Day.

Video call: Obviously, the best option currently available. But there are ways to make the videocall special. Call up your mother and do something together over the call. Cook, listen to music, clean the house or simply have a nice cup of chai and biscuit.

Make a post lockdown to-do list: Our busy schedules can often keep us from a lot of things we would otherwise like to do. But now, it is a good time to chalk out a post-lockdown plan. Think of all the things you have been putting away for later, and put them on a priority list with your mother.

Host a video karaoke night: The long days of the lockdown are surely making life dull. With little left unexplored, we are all now running out of options to keep us motivated. But there is always a way to find fun things to do. Lighten up mood and get the family together for a virtual karaoke night. Make it a party night with some offbeat cocktail recipes.

Buy her a subscription: How about gifting your mother an OTT subscription? Also, the global lockdown has facilitated many online classes. From cooking to starting a new business - a plethora of classes is available off the internet. So why not make the best use of it? Try fun master classes on mixology or fusion cooking. Maybe she will surprise you with an innovative cocktail the next time you visit.

Make her an investment: Uncertain times like this push towards thinking about our lives and its security. We also realise it’s better to be prepared for difficult times and save up for the rainy day. An investment can go a long way in protecting your parents and family.

Making our parents feel special isn’t a big task. All they need is a little time and attention. Use this time at home to realise how much it takes to be a parent and appreciate your parents for the little things they do. They are your only once in a lifetime opportunity.
