Fit for a career

If fitness is your passion, here are some options in the fitness industry you can consider making a career in

Sir Thomas John Watson once rightly said, “To be successful, you have to have your heart in your business and your business in your heart.” Everyone has been told, or at least heard this quote once in their life, but how often do you find someone who actually follows such sound advice?

If you’re a fitness freak, why don’t you choose a career in the fitness industry? There are numerous gyms, recreation centres, gadgets, watches, belts, food and nourishment supplements, machines available which claim to burn your calories and give you the right body, shape and weight. But ultimately, one needs the right coach, trainer and mentor to guide one.

People living in metro cities prefer to hit the gym or go walking/running to keep themselves fit. While some keep themselves fit through playing different kinds of sports, like mixed martial arts (MMA), football, and basketball, others prefer to indulge in different forms of dance like hip-hop, salsa or aerobics etc. One needs a holistic support to achieve their fitness goals in a cost-effective manner at a place and time of their convenience. But it is innovative fitness ideas that attract more clients.

Take for instance an arrangement like a Train the Trainer programme which encourages the trainer to sharpen their skills and acquire knowledge to become better at their work and make a name for themselves. It also ensures better financial prospects. Here are some fitness business trends you can choose to take up:

Make fitness fun: Over the many decades, dance has undeniably risen to become the most widely recognised fitness brands on the planet. With 122 registered folk dance styles in India, once you are fully trained and have established yourself, the instructors’ network provides you with a wide range of resources to help you expand your client base. Not only is dancing great for weight-loss, it also builds and strengthens your bones. But you’re not just working your body while you dance; you’re working your brain too. Memorising dance moves and learning rhythm involves the brain and leads to a lower risk of dementia.

Become a Physical Therapist: Physical therapists are a crucial component in the realm of athletics. And all it takes is some education and perseverance. Physical therapists recommend the use of fitness measures such as functional strength tests (eg, sit-to-stand), functional aerobic capacity tests (eg, shuttle run) and skill-based fitness measures (eg, paediatric balance scale) to gather the student’s baseline and monitor progress.

Become a Personal Trainer: Personal training has always been a market with a lot of potential. Most rec centres and gyms are glad to sign on mentors/coaches either on an independent or in-house premise, and it isn’t horribly hard to acquire the appropriate qualifications.

Take a route of Physical Education: Ever wondered why our PE trainers took the route of fitness as their career options? Well, probably it was out of passion back then, but it has truly transformed as of today’s scenario. Increasing number of people are opting for fitness as their preferred career choices, due to immense scope of work the industry promises to offer today.
