I enjoy writing: Tanuj Virwani

Three-film-old Tanuj Virwani has turned writer with a short film. The actor, along with his team, was shooting in Pune last weekend. Having experienced the Pune rains before heading back to Mumbai, the actor said, “Pune rains are better. It’s so pleasant when it rains here.”

Speaking of his film, Tanuj said, “I had written the story last year. It’s partially English and partially Hindi. It’s about an author who cannot separate the characters of his novel from his real life. We have divided the story into four chapters. The chapters tell similar stories but from a different point of view.”

Tanuj said that he has merged two different stories and made them into one. “I had written two stories but nothing was happening with them so I thought of blending them,” he said.

Tanuj will play two different roles in the film which will be 20-25 minutes long. He said that there are no central characters in the film which also stars Siddhant Chaturvedi and a bunch of other good actors.

Not many know that Tanuj always had an inclination towards writing and direction before he got into acting. “I enjoy writing. In fact, I was also going to direct the film but then I thought to myself, after playing two characters, I won’t be able to direct,” he said, adding, “The funny thing is that I always wanted to be a director. But while assisting, I got hooked to acting. I might get into direction in the future.”

As a writer, he had the option of playing the lead in the film but he did not do so. That, said Tanuj, would be unfair to the script. “Writing the best dialogues for myself or casting myself as the lead, would be unfair to the script. We have cast actors according to the demand of the story,” he clarified.

The One Night Stand actor will also be seen in Excel Entertainment and Amazon Primes’ web series Inside Edge. He said that he is pretty excited about the series which is based on the behind-the-scenes action in the cricket field. “I play a brash cricketer. It’s about his journey and decisions that affect his life. There are so many temptations for cricketers that it’s hard to concentrate. It’s a 10-episode series,” he said.

And what about his Bollywood projects? “I have shot for the series for 75 days, so I am treating it like a film. I am reading scripts and have screen tested for a few parts. If I fail to bag a role, I will continue screen testing for roles,” he added before signing off.
