Music for the soul

Music for the soul
Published on

Music is indispensable. We have all faced instances where we have felt blessed for the presence of music in our lives. Be it a situation that emotes happiness, sadness, confusion or any other feeling, music has always had our back in improving the situation.

Research says that music can stimulate your brain cells and influence emotions. Precisely that’s why you experience a sudden shift in your mood while listening to music. But how does music help with meditation? And if it does, what kind of music is preferred? Well, rather than just a mood-changer, people have reported a sudden spurt in their motivation levels when they listen to certain music. All of us need a push, don’t we?

If you were to get to the truth, the practice of meditation requires nothing, and music is an enhancer to your practice. Let’s get into the details and decode the right music for you to begin with and how it helps.

The right music
Choosing the right music is of utmost importance for the goal you want to achieve with your meditation practice — it depends on whether you want to relax, have a peaceful sleep, start a productive day or just unwind after a long week. Music is also interconnected with our body’s chakras — it has a beautiful mastery to unblock the blocked energy of the chakras of our body.

Meditation music can be divided into certain groups to get clarity that will help you choose the best one suited for your mood and goal at that particular time.

One can choose their suitable meditation music from a plethora of options like Indian classical music, Sanskrit mantras, Buddhist chants, nature sounds, light instrumental music and so on.

Indian classical music is considered to be one of the best forms of meditation music as the notes in Indian music have been scientifically proven to calm down the mind and body.

The meditation music possesses a healing power within that helps us concentrate, focus and go on living a healthy life.

Meditation music is often successful in helping us get rid of negativity, achieve peace, have mental clarity, relieve stress and connect with ourselves. It helps us heal through an emotional trauma, increases awareness of self and the surrounding. It also deepens and enhances the practice of meditation, improves our concentration and packs us up with positivity and love.

The meditation music is often played in the background while in a mediation session or yoga session. It is to be noted that the lower and clear the volume the better will be the result. In the absence of a silent environment, it is recommended to tune into some meditation music through earphones to have the perfect experience.

With the Western world joining the meditation music party, it is important for us to acknowledge the power and the opportunity that we have at our disposal to help us live a more meaningful, mindful life filled with positive energy. Meditation music is a welcomed addition to the practice of meditation that we all should indulge in once in a while. Namaste!

The Indian classical meditation music can be divided into different ragas. Every raga is a mantra, a medicine with healing powers

Let’s look at a few ragas and notice how they can help us heal.

Bhairavi Raga: It helps us become stress-free, reduce anxiety, it also helps in healing allergies.

Hamsadhwani Raga: It gives us energy and helps us think positively. It also helps us become more conscious of ourselves and the surroundings.

Hindolam Raga: It works towards improving our digestive power, aiding us to heal and cure stomach related issues.

Neelambari Raga: It assists in solving insomnia and gives us a good sleep, which makes us experience some mental peace.

Yamuna Kalyani: It refreshes us and helps us be ready to take on a new day, it also fills us with positive energy and dynamism.

Other ragas that one can include in their practice are Bageshri, Keervani, Kalyani, Sama, Sivaranjani, and Subhapantuvarali.
