Social distancing is now acceptable behaviour in society. To help humanity and save the world from catastrophe, individuals need to stay away from each other. And we have to be united in this effort to fight off coronavirus. One thing that has been clear in the past few days is that people are willing to be in this together and help each other in this hour of crisis.
Taaareef, a city-based restaurant, is offering Dal Khichadi free of cost on Saturday (March 21) till midnight, to help those who are working and do not have cooking facilities at home or may not be able to order food. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced Janata Curfew on Sunday, March 22, from 7 am to 9 pm, to limit the spread of the virus. It’s a great initiative. However, there are so many people like the cops and health care workers and others who are working non-stop in the streets and at hospitals to make our life safe. These people may not have access to food. Our initiative could help them,” says Sanjhey S, owner of Taaareef.
The restaurant, which has outlets in Aundh and Bavdhan, is offering one portion of Dal Khichadi to individuals throughout the day till midnight. You can either pick it up or call the restaurant and get it delivered at home. “There are many youngsters, especially bachelors, living in the city who may not have a kitchen or cooking facilities at home. It can be a little difficult for them to source cooked food on Sunday during the curfew. If they can pick up the Dal Khichadi on Saturday and store it, it may help. At Taaareef, we are offering simple nutritious Dal Khichadi and maintaining good hygiene while cooking and packing the food. We are using foil to pack the Khichadi,” he says.
With all restaurants shut now for dine in but open for delivery and takeaway, the staff has been reduced. “We are operating with a minimal staff and only the core people are working now,” says Sanjhey, adding, “At this hour, we have to find more ways to help each other. There needs to be greater awareness about coronavirus and how to stop spreading it. That said, people don’t have to panic and go to supermarkets and buy all the stuff and empty the shelves. It’s not the end. We have to live. The lockdown has been imposed till March 31. After some time, things will come back to normal.”
Showing concern for the aged and for those with reduced mobility, Sanjhey and his team at Taaareef are willing to go the extra mile and have the Dal Khichadi delivered at their doorstep.
