Secret Santas unlock their secrets

Christmas is just a night away, and many of you must be wrapping the gifts and putting the bows on the pretty packages to surprise your loved ones. If you still haven’t bought a present for that special someone, pick up one right now. Need an idea? We found a few Santas to share some ‘smart’ surprises that they have chosen for the big night. You can draw inspiration from them and get the game rolling.

“Recently, I got engaged to my fiancé who lives in Canada. Since the time difference is huge it makes it difficult for us to catch up on our daily chats. I rarely get to speak to him because either he is sleeping or we both are busy with our respective work. To make time for each other, we decided on a particular time to call each other. But as it turns out, Mr Fiancé is always late for this call of ours. This gifting season, I have got him a customised alarm clock with my picture on it, so every time it buzzes, he knows it’s time to talk.”

“I live with my younger sister and for some reason, she is always sneaking around my room and taking away my clothes to wear them without seeking my permission. Of late, she has been obsessed with my collection of socks, and every now and then, I can see that she is wearing a pair that belongs to me. So the best gift for my little sister is a perfect pair of socks that I really liked. But gifting a pair of socks can be a bit outrageous for Christmas, if not packed right. So for the big surprise, I have made sure that I have packed it really well. It looks like a grand gift, even if it’s not. Things are not that bad, I’ve put a Christmas card in it.”

“My nephew is addicted to video games. But when his parents are around, he is an obedient child, reading a book or studying. But whenever I am babysitting him, he is always glued to his video game. I fear he will have to wear eyeglasses soon. To scare him a bit, I have gift-wrapped a pair of spectacles with a fake doctor’s prescription that says his eyesight is going for a toss. I think a pair of spectacles are probably the best gift for him. Why? He thinks glasses are not cool and his friends will make fun of him. I am pretty sure this is the best gift for him to stay away from video games.”

“My elder brother is quite forgetful. He does not remember birthdays, important events, functions or even things that are related to the office. When he misses an office presentation and his boss gives him a good shouting, he comes home all cranky and starts yelling at others even though it is not our fault. To help him manage things well and not be forgetful, I have got him a planner to sort out his day, week and month. Hopefully, he won’t forget to add notes to at least the planner.”
— Aditi Salvi, student, Pune

“My brother is a crazy PUBG fan. And since he attends college and classes the entire day, his PUBG world comes to life only at night, when my family and I are dead after a tiring day. But this is also the time when he starts yelling and giving commands to his fellow players that disturbs our sleep. So as a thoughtful gift we have got him a sleeping bag, which he can take to our terrace and play ‘peacefully’ without disturbing us.”
