Siddhant Chaturvedi, who played the role of Shrikant Bhosle aka MC Sher in Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy, which also starred Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Vijay Verma and others, has been receiving a lot of appreciation since the film released early this year. The actor’s work was not only loved by critics but social media users too couldn’t stop gushing about him.
As the film is set to make its TV premiere on June 23 on Zee Cinema, we catch up with Siddhant who says that he is being offered several film scripts now. “I wasn’t there before, so people did not have any preconceived notions about me. But after the film released, people have noticed me and I am getting a lot of work. People are approaching me with interesting scripts. I am in a happy space,” he says, adding, “But I am waiting for the right script.”
Siddhant who started his career with the web series Inside Edge, adds that he has wait for a few more films of his to release before understanding if the industry has truly accepted him or not.
But he is being careful about the projects that he signs and he replies that he has always been careful and selective about the characters he wants to play. “I really waited for one good film and character and that has happened. My approach is the same; nothing is going to change. In fact, my life is the same. It’s just that I am getting a lot more film offers and getting to choose from among them,” says Siddhant, adding, “I always go with my instinct and heart. I try to understand the dynamics and commerce of a project along with logic and emotion. It’s a constant process. I am just being me, not extra careful or extra carried away.”
The actor is confident that the TV premiere will reach every household. “Television is part of every household in India. TV audience is really huge. If people vmissed watching the film in theatres, or Amazon, they can watch it on TV now. I used to wait for certain films to appear on television. There is a nostalgic value to it,” he says.
Ask him if there’re any memorable moments attached to the film and he says, “There are so many of them. Zoya, Ranveer, Vijay and every crew member used to rap. Then once, I remember, we were shooting for Gali Gali Main and it was the last shot. I looked at Ranveer and we hugged each other. We were so much into the song that I lifted him up and he fell on me. We were rolling down. Zoya was shouting to cut the scene in background but we were not stopping. She finally said, ‘cut’. There was a lot of bromance and I had a great time shooting for the film.”
The actor recently dubbed for the Hindi version of Hollywood film Men in Black International along with Sanya Malhotra. “The experience was great. I have watched Hindi dubbed films since I was a kid and now dubbing for one was quite overwhelming. I also got to meet Chris Hemsworth. Dubbing was quite exciting and fun because I got to do my own little experimentation,” he adds.
Recently there were reports about Siddhant signing Mom filmmaker Ravi Udaywar’s next, to be produced by Excel Entertainment. But the actor says that there is no truth to the reports. “Having said that, Ravi is a very talented ad director and what a film Mom was. I would love to work with him,” he says before signing off.
