Actress Akanksha Chamola, who recently appeared on the Netflix show Lock Upp, has confirmed that her divorce from Anupamaa actor Gaurav Khanna is underway, ending speculation about their relationship after social media users questioned whether the news was a TRP-driven strategy for the reality show or a PR stunt. She further disclosed that the decision to legally separate was made several months before she joined Lock Upp and before Gaurav took part in Khatron Ke Khiladi 15.
Discussing the divorce, Akanksha told NewsX that she has not yet finalized the legal procedures because their demanding work schedules have made it hard for them to find a suitable time to sit together and sign the papers. Referring to their conflicting schedules, she said, "It is very difficult."
'When You Both Are Struggling...'
Contrary to popular belief, life is not that simple for an actor, because when both partners are struggling and managing their own schedules, things do not always turn out the way you had hoped, she added.
'Divorce Is Happening For Sure'
Akanksha disclosed that the couple had been living apart for about 18 months before they chose to formally dissolve their marriage. She added that the decision to separate was made roughly two months prior to her entering Lock Upp.
Akanksha said, "It took us a long time to truly conclude that things were not working out. We spent 18 months realizing that we were not meant for each other, and that marriage is something that belongs to a different time in the future. The divorce itself, the decision to formally separate, was made two months earlier."
During her stint on Lock Upp, Akanksha made multiple remarks about Gaurav, stating that she did not wish to marry again and wanted to experience life and enjoy her independence. She also commented on Gaurav’s sexuality. Gaurav later appeared on Lock Upp to meet Akanksha.
Gaurav and Akanksha were married on November 24, 2016, during an opulent three-day wedding celebration hosted in Gaurav's hometown of Kanpur.
