Nandamuri Balakrishna’s action drama Akhanda 2 Thaandavam is set to stream on Netflix from January 9, giving the film a digital release weeks after its theatrical run. The streaming platform confirmed the date through a social media announcement, stating that the film will be available in Telugu along with dubbed versions in Hindi, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam.
Directed by Boyapati Srinu, Akhanda 2 is the sequel to the 2021 hit Akhanda, which emerged as one of the biggest successes of Balakrishna’s career. The second part released in theatres on December 12 and opened to strong buzz, driven largely by expectations surrounding the continuation of the spiritual action narrative and the actor’s larger than life screen presence.
The film sees Balakrishna reprise his dual shaded role, blending mythological symbolism with high voltage action. While the scale of the sequel was bigger, audience response remained mixed, with viewers divided over the film’s length, writing and familiar treatment. Trade figures showed a decent opening before collections tapered off in the following weeks.
Netflix’s announcement was met with swift reactions from fans online, many of whom welcomed the chance to revisit the film at home. Several viewers said the OTT release would help the movie reach audiences beyond theatres, particularly among those who missed its big screen run or prefer watching mass entertainers on streaming platforms.
For Netflix, Akhanda 2 adds to its growing slate of Telugu action films featuring established stars. For Balakrishna, the digital release ensures continued visibility after a packed year and keeps the franchise alive in public conversation. With the film now heading to OTT, attention is slowly shifting to what the actor and director plan next following the mixed response to the sequel.
