Following the 2026 West Bengal Assembly election, in which the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) defeated the Trinamool Congress (TMC), an unexpected remark involving Anupam Kher has drawn attention online. West Bengal BJP chief Samik Bhattacharya launched a sharp attack on the TMC, asserting that the party would “never return to power in Bengal.” He went on to jest that even Anupam Kher could grow back his hair, but the TMC would still be unable to regain power in the state.
What the BJP leader said
On Tuesday, during a press briefing held a day after the results, the BJP leader declared, "The impossible may happen: the sky could fall to the ground, the sea could rise to the sky, even Anupam Kher might grow hair again, but the Trinamool Congress can never come back to power," asserting that the party’s ouster from Bengal was both "inevitable and irreversible."
Anupam Kher reacts
Posting the video on Instagram, Anupam Kher responded with a touch of humour, writing, "Oh brother! What wrong have I done to you? Why do you wish for hair to grow on my head? Given the present situation, I wouldn’t want that even for many lifetimes! Jai Shri Ram!"
His sharp retort entertained many on social media, prompting actor Kangana Ranaut to respond with laughing emojis. Fans also chimed in, applauding his sense of humour. One user wrote, "Overall he loves you and Modi Ji both, so he can't hide his feelings." Another commented, "What a hilarious reply, sir." A third added, "The actor is so goated that people have started using him as an example."
The comment was made in the context of the BJP’s sweeping election victory, with the party winning 207 of 293 seats. In contrast, the TMC suffered a major setback, falling to 80 seats from its commanding 215-seat count in 2021. Significantly, the BJP had secured only 77 seats in the last election, underscoring the dramatic surge in its performance.
