Slowly but steadily awards shows are getting normal again amid the ongoing pandemic. As part of the award season, the 2021 Billboard Music Awards are also back in full swing! The star-studded event is sure to celebrate some of the hottest names in music today. With appearances from all our favourite stars, including host Nick Jonas, the evening is sure to be a big celebration.

Performance on Billboard Charts, widely considered to be the authority in the music industry, determines the nominees and to-be winners from the music industry. According to Billboard’s official website, ‘the finalists and winners are based on key fan interactions with music, including album and digital song sales, streaming, radio airplay, and social engagement, tracked by Billboard and its data partners, including MRC Data.’

Who is performing?

The official website of BBMA has confirmed that TS, Doja Cat, SZA, AJR, Bad Bunny and Karol G, DJ Khaled featuring H.E.R. and Migos, Duran Duran, Glass Animals, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis with Sounds Of Blackness featuring Ann Nesby and Twenty One Pilots will be taking over the stage this time.

The Weeknd is one of the top performers of the year as he has secured 16 nominations across all the BBMA categories. While the K-pop band is all set to perform their brand new song, Butter, remotely from Korea, they are finalists in four categories at the show - top duo/group, top song sales artist, top social artist and top-selling song for their Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 song Dynamite.

2021 Billboard Music Awards nominations

The nominations are being led by singer The Weeknd who has over 16 nominations for his After Hours record and the chart-topping song Blinding Lights. On the other hand, Dababy earned 11 nods and his hit Rockstar earned him nominations in a top rap song, top streaming song and top collaboration categories. K-pop band BTS, Taylor Swift and Dua Lipa are nominated in four categories each. Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga have bagged three nominations. The nominations for the top five categories are as follows.

How to vote?

This year fans have an opportunity to vote winners of the Top Social Artist Award and the Top Collaboration Award. The voting for the Awards started on May 10, 2021, at 9.00 am PT (May 10, 2021, at 9.30 am IST) and will close on May 21, 2021, at 11.59.59 pm PT (May 22, 2021, at 12.30 am IST). According to the official website, “There are two ways for you to cast votes for the Awards during the Voting Period – “Billboard Website Voting” and “Twitter Voting,”.”. When and where to watch the 2021 Billboard Music Awards?

While the nominations were announced on April 29 through Billboards official social media accounts in a live stream, the music award will air live on May 23 on NBC. The award show will be aired at 8.00 pm EST, meanwhile, the Indian fans can enjoy the show on May 24 at 5.30 am. The musical evening is all set to stream live from the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles, US. While the executive producers for the show are Barry Adelman and Robert Deaton, the host is our very own Nick Jonas.
