The world of internet manages to surprise you on a regular basis. Soon after the news of Diego Maradona passing away broke out, pop superstar Madonna was trending on social media platforms with her fans thinking she has died and started sending their tributes.

Many social media users believed that the singer had left the world. They used Twitter to send in RIP messages for the singer. However, the mistake was soon enough noted by several netizens, who set out to put the record straight.

A user said, "My mom showed me a text her friend sent her that said that Maradona died and I was like oh wait that's not Madonna (because I initially read it as Madonna lol).”

At some point, after the mistake people realised and jokes started doing the rounds.

Maradona lost his life amid cardio-respiratory arrest at his home in the Tigre district in northern outskirts of Buenos Aires, Argentina. The government has announced three days of national mourning following the football legend's death.

Maradona, who captained Argentina to lift the 1986 World Cup, was a uniquely gifted player in the football world. The former star player and coach had undergone surgery following a stroke in early November. The hand of God celebrated his 60th birthday on October 30. The footballer's death left the entire world in mourning.
