

The Great Shamsuddin Family, starring Farida Jalal and Sheeba Chaddha, is set to premiere on December 12, as revealed by JioHotstar alongside the release of its trailer. This comedy-drama also signifies filmmaker Anusha Rizvi’s return to directing, fourteen years after her well-received debut Peepli Live (2010).
Rizvi, who is also the film’s writer, focuses the narrative on Bani Ahmed, portrayed by Kritika Kamra, whose life takes a turbulent turn when she is tasked with completing an important application in just twelve hours. As the deadline approaches, her large family suddenly arrives at her home, unleashing a mix of emotional conflicts, underlying tensions, and disorderly challenges.
The cast features an impressive group of actors, including Farida Jalal, Sheeba Chaddha, Shreya Dhanwanthary, Juhi Babbar Soni, Purab Kohli, Dolly Ahluwalia, Natasha Rastogi, Joyeeta Dutta, Nishank Verma, Manisha Gupta, Rana Pratap Senger, Rahul Misha, Jeff Goldberg, and debutant Anushka Bannerjee in her first on-screen role.
The movie is produced by Alok Jain, Ajit Andhare, and Mahmood Farooqui under the banner of Third World Films, with Star Studios 18 serving as the presenter. The crew includes cinematographer Debashish Remy Dalai, editor Konark Saxena, and production designer Madhusudhan N. The soundtrack is composed by Simran Hora, featuring lyrics penned by the late Ghulam Rabbani Taban.
