The origin story of fur-loving Cruella, one of Disney’s most wicked villainess, is one of the most anticipated movies of the year. Right after its release (globally, at least!), the movie garnered attention for many things – theme, plot, costumes – and was instantly compared to the 1996 movie, 101 Dalmatians, which first featured the character. The character itself is based on Dodie Smith's novel by the same name.

Even though the movie is not released in India as yet, we are more than excited to watch the movie solely for the visual treat. We mean the costumes. The trailer of this crime drama film played as a perfect catalyst and fuelled our desire to watch the movie. After the trailer, however, one of the first things we looked up was the name of the designer. And surprise, surprise, it is Jenny Beavan!

Jenny Beavan is the two-time winner of Best Costume Design at the Oscars. In most of the movies she has worked in, her work has been appreciated one way or another. The costumes, alone, show the story of her transformation from an aspiring young Estella into a ruthless Cruella! She suddenly switches from all-black and simple ensembles to dramatic red ball-gowns and sequined pants.

Was Thanos right all along?

In an interview with Vogue, Beavan revealed that the character has about 47 looks throughout the movie (what?!?!?!?!), while the Baroness has about 33 wardrobe changes. Here are some of our favourite costumes, of the ones that Emma Stone donned, that we absolutely love from the trailer.

Punk-it-up

Set in the ’70s the wardrobe pretty much resembles the style from that era. Estella (before her horrifically beautiful transformation), is mostly in tune with the vibe. From the start, she didn’t were any colour but allowed her crimson hair to be the centre of attraction. More often than none, she is seen with basic makeup and a beret (sometimes).

Estella, even though an aspiring fashion designer, her style factor is not as flamboyant as Cruella. It appears like she intentionally tries to wear clothes that help her blend in and not stand out from the crowd.

Magic of Red

For us, this dress worked the magic (quite literally!). If you’ve watched the movie or seen the trailer, you see Emma Stone, making a dramatic entrance at a ball while donning a white overcoat that poof once set ablaze. In an interview with Yahoo Life, the designer spoke about the powerful scene and said, “That scene was scripted, that she comes in obviously to make an entrance… So the whole business of the cape being on fire is written in the script.” She also revealed the choice of the stunning coloured-gown, and said, “If you're in a black-and-white ball and you really want to make an impression, red will be the right one to go for, and I'm very glad we did.”

It is most definitely one of the best dresses in the film and makes a great impression. One of the iconic dresses from the movie complements Stone's body frame and skin colour commanding the audience's attention. The gorgeous black mask adds to the mystery and finesse and goes perfectly with the gown.

Garbage truck scene

In the trailer, one can see Stone clinging to the side of a garbage truck as it drives away with the train following. One of the most flamboyant dresses, at first glance it seems like discarded fabric until you realize that it is actually a part of Cruella’s outfit.

The dress seems to be pinkish in colour and is styled with a couple of newspapers and we must say that we loved the extra oomph. Stone carries the dress with unflinching confidence, creating an impressionable moment for the fans.

Black and white till the end!

Now this one should top all the lists when we talk about Cruella’s most iconic dresses. It has to be closest to her because of the source of the dress’s colours if not the material since according to reports the latest movie does not motivate her love of fur.

'Bridgerton' spin-off on young Queen Charlotte: Here’s all we know
