The recipients of the 55th Kerala State Film Awards were revealed on Monday evening. Manjummel Boys and Bramayugam received several accolades. This year, actor Prakash Raj chaired the jury and participated in a press conference to talk about the winners and the awards given.
What Prakash Raj shared
At the event, Prakash Raj was questioned about his role as a jury member for the Kerala State Film Awards and his opinion on Mammootty's prospects of winning the National Film Awards. He remarked, 'I have no hesitation in saying that the National Film Awards are compromised. I am delighted to be the jury chairman in Kerala because when they approached me, they expressed the need for an experienced outsider and assured me that they would not interfere, allowing me to make the decision.'
He stated, 'This is not occurring with the National Awards, and we can observe it. When documents and heaps are receiving accolades! With this kind of jury and this type of national government... they are unworthy of Mammukka.'
Mammootty's accolades and recognitions
Mammootty has been honored with the National Award for Best Actor on three occasions, thanks to his roles in Mathilukal, Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha, Ponthan Mada, Vidheyan, and Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar. Throughout the years, numerous fans have expressed their belief that Mammootty has merited acknowledgment on several occasions but has been passed over by the jury.
This year, his victory at the Kerala State Awards for Bramayugam marked his seventh win in the category, setting a record for any actor. Mohanlal and Urvashi both have six wins each in the same category. The survival drama Manjummel Boys received the Best Film award at the Kerala State Film Awards, and Chidambaram was honored with the Best Director award.
