Regarding Rang De Basanti
The socio-political drama about growing up was crafted, produced, and helmed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra. It starred a diverse group of actors such as Aamir Khan, Siddharth (making his first appearance in a Hindi film), Atul Kulkarni, Sharman Joshi, Kunal Kapoor, British actress Alice Patten (also debuting in Hindi cinema), Waheeda Rehman, and Soha Ali Khan.
The movie depicted the journey of a British film student who traveled to India to capture the stories of five freedom fighters from the Indian revolutionary movement. She forms friendships with five young men and involves them in her project, motivating them to oppose the injustices of their government. Rang De Basanti received the National Film Award for Best Popular Film and was a nominee for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2007 BAFTA Awards. Additionally, it was selected as India's official submission for the Golden Globe Awards and the Academy Awards in the same category.
Sharman Joshi shared a significant memory from when the film was released. He vividly recalls the praise he received from former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee for the song 'Roobaroo' in the movie.
Joshi shared with PTI that during a special screening in Delhi, Atal Bihari Vajpayee approached him, embraced him, and praised him by reciting a line from 'Roobaroo': 'Sooraj ko main nigal gaya'. This resonated with the poet within Vajpayee.
