"Where am I blaming her?" asks Sunil Gavaskar on Anushka Sharma's comments

"Where am I blaming her?" asks Sunil Gavaskar on Anushka Sharma's comments

Sunil Gavaskar, veteran cricketer turned commentator, spoke to India Today and clarified his recent statement about Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli that he made on air.

"Where am I blaming her? Where am I being sexist in this? I am just stating what was seen in the video which was maybe recorded by somebody in the neighbouring buildings and then put up," he said, in response to the criticism. "Where am I blaming her for Virat's failures? I am only saying that in the said video, she was bowling to Virat," he added.

Sunil Gavaskar, further explained his stance and added that he is someone who has always sided with wives going on tours with their cricketer husbands.

"A normal guy going to office for a 9-5 job, when he comes back home, he comes back to his wife. Similarly, cricketers, when they go out for a tour or even when they are playing at home, why can't they have their wives with them?" asked the veteran.

Sunil Gavaskar had gotten on the bad side of fans' after a remark he had made about Virat Kohli-Anushka Sharma on air during the Kings Xi Punjab and Chennai Super Kings game on Thursday.

Gavaskar remarked that Virat Kohli had just practiced on Anushka Sharma's deliveries during the lockdown while commentating in the game. He made the statement in reference to a video the couple had uploaded during the lockdown where Anushka was bowling to Virat Kohli. The comment did not go down with the fans as many took to twitter to express their anger.

Virat Kohli had a rare off day on field and could not contribute with the bat and even dropped two catches of the centurion KL Rahul. After the second drop alone, Rahul scored 42 runs off just 9 deliveries.

Anushka Sharma herself, took to Instagram and questioned the veteran over the validity of his statements and expressed that it was completely uncalled for. On numerous instances, Anushka Sharma has been criticised for Virat's failures on field, something that does not make any sense.
