Looking at the dire conditions in Maharashtra due to the COVID-19, on Monday, the Defence Minister Rajnath Singh criticised the Shiva Sena-led State government for handling the situation poorly. He said, “The situation in Maharashtra is more of a circus than a government.”
Praising Sonu Sood for his prompt decision to help stranded migrants, Rajnath Singh also slammed Maharashtra government’s criticism of the actor’s deed. On Sunday, the Maharashtra government had said Sonu Sood is showing the State govt in a bad light.
“Instead of appreciating his work and helping hand, the government has criticised actor Sonu Sood for his efforts to send migrant workers back home,” said Rajnath Singh.
Singh, while addressing a virtual BJP rally for Maharashtra workers, said, “It is highly unfortunate to see the State crawling despite having a strong leadership of NCP chief Sharad Pawar.”
The defence minister made remarks that “greed for power” blinded the Maharashtra government and is failing at its political responsibilities. After assembly election was held in 2019, Shiv Sena broke its alliance with BJP.
“I wonder whether any government exists in Maharashtra when I see a coronavirus patient waiting for an ambulance for more than 16 hours,” further added, Mr Singh.
Mr Singh also said Maharashtra Government should take inspiration from UP and Karnataka on handling the COVID-19 situation and containing the virus spread.
Currently, Maharashtra has recorded 88,598 coronavirus cases, of its 50,085 cases are in Mumbai alone, out of which 26,345 are active cases. The State’s active cases stand at 44,374.
Meanwhile, the total death toll of Maharashtra is at 3,169 and Mumbai stands at 1,702 deaths. The mortality rate in the State is 3.57%.
Although the recovery rate in Maharashtra is at 46.28%, which could be the silver lining. On Monday, Mumbai gradually opened a few sectors and services to revive the economic activities in the city.
