Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder

Sometimes I can’t help but wonder how we all are so engrossed in achieving our ever so materialistic goals set by stereotypical thinking that it becomes nearly impossible for us to come out of it. Although once in a while we attempt at making pretend trips with our loved ones which sometimes result in us trying too hard to enjoy just for the sake of it.

Sadly enough we’re all nescient about all the wonderful things happening around us every day. We are so used to seeking the material advantage that the vacation becomes all about climbing a hill and taking a picture of you having made it there so as to have a proof to show it off to your snooty friends. How about instead of that we take a mental picture of all that happened during the journey.  How in spite your thirst you helped someone needier with your water; how you stumbled upon a rock only to catch sight of a beautiful wildflower; how making it to the top gave you a soothing sense of accomplishment and how the pranks on the way back on your companions still make you laugh. If you keep turning your excursion trips into a boasting device you’re missing out on some amazing experiences. It’s funny how clear our visions are but how blurred our intentions have become.

One day I was walking into my college when I came across something that left me speechless and astounded. I am blessed with a college of eternal beauty and bewitching campus where I came across this beautiful moment. It was a warm afternoon and under the shade of the tree, I saw a couple sitting holding hands. What surprised me was that they were both blind but it seemed like they had seen the entire world. Their ecstatic smiles were incomparable to anything in the world, free of all evils and malevolence; only pure joy. Ironically they could see what we can’t, they could do what we can’t; that is bracing the moment and enjoying the beauty of it.

Have you ever rejoiced about the little things, for instance, the texture of the wing of a small bee? The succulence of a chocolate dessert spreading all over your mouth pallet and hitting just the right areas making the dish heavenly? The joy in a little kid’s eyes hanging off of his mother’s shoulders trying to see the outside world for the first time? experience is what builds our soul and these little experiences matter. After all, beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder.
