Pune: With the state government announcing the implementation of the CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) pattern from the upcoming academic year, concerns among parents and students in Pune are mounting. Many parents claim that neither they nor their children are mentally prepared for such a shift. They fear that the transition could lead to several difficulties for students, especially those entering crucial academic years.
Increased Academic Pressure a Major Concern
Parents argue that adopting the CBSE curriculum will significantly increase the academic burden on students. With a more rigorous syllabus and emphasis on conceptual learning, they worry that students will struggle to manage time for extracurricular activities, particularly sports. Many parents believe that an overloaded schedule could hinder the overall development of children.
Another major concern revolves around the CBSE academic calendar. Unlike the state board, which follows a schedule suited to regional climate conditions, CBSE has a uniform calendar across the country. Parents insist that even if the CBSE pattern is adopted, vacation schedules should be adjusted to align with local weather patterns, ensuring students' well-being.
Students Fear Sudden Transition to CBSE Pattern
Students themselves have expressed distress over the sudden shift. Those currently in Grade 9, preparing to enter Grade 10, feel especially unprepared to take their board exams under the CBSE system. Many believe that had they been gradually introduced to CBSE-style learning in earlier grades, the transition to Grade 10 would have been smoother.
A common concern among students is the significantly broader syllabus under CBSE compared to the state board. Many fear that adapting to the increased workload within a single academic year will be extremely challenging.
