AIT Foundation Day: Dr. K. Sivan Urges Youth to Explore Space Entrepreneurship

Pune: Former ISRO Chairman Dr. K. Sivan has called upon young students to embrace innovation and technology to explore opportunities in the space sector, urging them to contribute to India’s growing space industry as entrepreneurs.

Speaking at the 31st Foundation Day celebration of the Army Institute of Technology (AIT), Pune, Dr. Sivan emphasized that space technology is entering a new era of privatization, backed by government initiatives. He advised students to consider space research as a viable career option and contribute to the country’s scientific advancements.

Dr. Sivan was honored with AIT’s Lifetime Achievement Award, presented by Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Command, Indian Army. The event witnessed the participation of several dignitaries, including AIT Director Brigadier Abhay Bhatt, Deputy Director M.K. Prasad, Principal Dr. B.P. Patil, senior military officers, faculty members, and alumni.

Dr. Sivan noted that opportunities in satellite and rocket manufacturing are expanding, presenting immense potential for young space entrepreneurs.

"The vision of legendary scientist Dr. Vikram Sarabhai has propelled India to great heights in space exploration. Now, it is essential to make space technology accessible to all sections of society. The youth must take the lead in developing and innovating in this field," Dr. Sivan stated.

Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth commended AIT’s contribution to both defense and the private sector, stating that the institute has been instrumental in producing highly skilled engineers.

The event also witnessed the felicitation of outstanding individuals:

  • Pritpal Singh (Batch of 2002) was honored with the ‘Successful Young Entrepreneur Award’.

  • Ishan Kapoor received the ‘All-Rounder Student Award’.

  • Vanshika won the G. Rajasekhar Memorial Trophy for Best Sportsperson.

  • Dr. L.D. Jathar received the ‘Best Research and Consultancy Award’.

  • Dr. Sita Yadav was recognized as ‘Best Faculty’.
