According to the survivor’s complaint, the main accused, Shafiul Abul Nasur Wahid Alam from Assam, lured the woman in January 2025 with false marriage promises and brought her to Pune. Upon arrival, she was sold to a brothel where she was forced into prostitution. Two local agents, Papa Sheikh and Adhura Shiva Kamli, residents of Budhwar Peth, reportedly coerced and threatened her to continue in the brothel.

In a shocking revelation, a police officer known to the accused is also alleged to have sexually assaulted the victim, highlighting the deep-rooted corruption and exploitation within the system. The woman endured this horrific ordeal for nearly four months before managing to escape and approach the Faraskhana Police Station to file a complaint.

The police have registered the case under the Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act (PITA), with Police Inspector Ajit Jadhav leading the investigation. Human trafficking for forced prostitution remains a grave issue in Pune and across India, with vulnerable women and girls often lured by false promises of marriage or employment. The involvement of trusted individuals and even law enforcement personnel in such crimes exacerbates the problem, making it harder for victims to seek help.

This case has sparked outrage on social media and among human rights groups, demanding stricter action against traffickers and systemic reforms to protect victims. The Pune Police have urged citizens to report suspicious activities and remain vigilant to prevent such heinous crimes.
