
Pune, 2nd August 2025: A gambling den operating inside a Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) parking lot in Narayan Peth was raided by Vishrambaug Police late Thursday night. A total of 33 individuals have been booked under the Maharashtra Gambling Prevention Act, and an assistant sub-inspector found participating in the game has been suspended.
The action took place at the PMC’s "Kridamaharshi Haribhau Sane" parking lot located near Modi Ganpati Temple. Though managed by a private contractor, the facility was being misused for running illegal gambling activities. After receiving a tip-off, a police team led by Inspector (Crime) Arun Ghodke and Assistant Inspector Rajesh Usgaonkar carried out the raid under the guidance of DCP (Zone 1) Krishikesh Ravanale
During the operation, police seized ₹1.69 lakh in cash, 25 mobile phones, and several decks of playing cards, all valued at nearly ₹4.93 lakh.
Among those caught gambling was an assistant sub-inspector attached to the police headquarters. Following this discovery, DCP (Headquarters) Rajlaxmi Shivankar ordered his immediate suspension.
The investigation is ongoing to determine if there were any additional officials or outsiders facilitating the illegal activity within the civic facility.
