Baner Hill: Young Couple Assaulted and Robbed, Second Assault in Ten Days
Pune: A young man and his female friend were assaulted and robbed of valuables worth ₹51,000 while they were on a walk at Baner Hill. This incident occurred on Sunday evening and was reported to Chatuhshrungi Police Station by Abiniu Chawang, a resident of Aundh.
According to the complaint, Abiniu and his friend, Chingmaliu Pamei, were stopped by four young men aged between 18 and 20 while they were walking on the hill.
The attackers, armed with sharp weapons, threatened and physically assaulted both of them. One of the assailants struck Chingamlai on her finger with a weapon. The group then robbed them of their mobile phones, ear buds, and other personal items before fleeing the scene.
Following the attack, the shaken victims approached Chatuhshrungi Police Station, where a case was filed late that night. Assistant Police Commissioner Anuja Deshmane and Senior Police Inspector Mahesh Bolkotgi visited the crime scene, and Sub-Inspector Pravin Chaugule is currently handling the investigation.
This is the second such incident at Baner Hill in recent days. Ten days earlier, a student from Nagaland was similarly assaulted and robbed in the same area. Police have already arrested some minors and accomplices in connection with that case.
In light of these incidents, law enforcement authorities are ramping up security measures. Recently, after a college girl was gang-raped at Bopdev Ghat on October 3, Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced the allocation of funds to install brighter lighting in Pune's isolated areas, including its hills.
Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar has also ordered intensified patrolling in these regions to prevent further crimes.
