Pune: Over 100 students of a local academy in Baramati were left in distress on Wednesday (February 12) morning as a cooperative credit society took legal possession of a loan guarantor’s building. The unexpected action forced students to vacate their hostel rooms, leaving them stranded on the streets.
The property seizure process began early in the morning as part of legal proceedings against the guarantor of a cooperative society loan. The students residing in the building were completely unaware of the situation until their belongings were suddenly removed. A state of panic and confusion ensued, with many students breaking down in tears as their possessions were placed outside.
Reports indicate that the Mumbai High Court had previously granted a stay on the property seizure after the loan guarantor assured repayment within a stipulated period. However, the guarantor failed to meet the deadline and eventually withdrew the claim from court, allowing the cooperative society to legally take possession of the building.
Once the news reached parents, they expressed strong resentment over the distress caused to their children. Many questioned why the academy was not informed in advance, stating that students suffered undue mental distress despite having no role in the loan dispute.
The hostel housed 120 students of Class 12, who were left unsettled just a day before their Marathi exam on Thursday (February 13). The incident deeply impacted their morale and focus at a critical academic juncture.
The academy management has provided temporary accommodation for the students and assured them that a permanent solution will be arranged within the next few days.
