Pune: A bomb threat call claiming that an explosive device had been planted on Platform No. 2 of Pune Railway Station caused a brief panic this morning.
The Pune City Police Control Room received the anonymous call at around 9 AM, prompting immediate action by the police force to ensure public safety.
Upon receiving the alert, police teams swiftly mobilized to the railway station, conducting a thorough search of the premises.
Security personnel and bomb detection squads were deployed to inspect Platform No. 2 and other areas of the station. However, no explosive devices were found during the search, confirming the call to be a hoax.
Meanwhile, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police traced the caller and detained him within hours of the incident.
The caller, a 40-year-old resident of Ravet in the Pimpri-Chinchwad area, is reported to have made the prank call under the influence of alcohol.
Speaking on the matter, the authorities stated that the individual’s actions disrupted public order and caused unnecessary alarm.
The Pimpri-Chinchwad Police are in the process of filing a case against the person responsible.
In August 2024, Panic struck three hospitals in Pimpri—located in Nigdi, Bhosari, and Chinchwad—after receiving an email claiming that bombs had been planted on their premises.
Hospital managements had swiftly alerted the police, who deployed a bomb detection and disposal squad to investigate the potential threat.
