
Pune: The draft charges in the Bopdev Ghat sexual assault case will be submitted on April 8, 2025. Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwala Pawar is set to present the draft charges in court against the two arrested accused in the case. The horrific incident, which took place on October 3, 2024, sent shockwaves across Pune and the entire state.
Case Background and Arrests
A 21-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped at Bopdev Ghat, leading to widespread outrage. Following an investigation, the police arrested two individuals: Shoaib Akhtar alias Shoaib Babu Sheikh (27) and Chandrakumar Raviprasad Kanojia (20). However, a third accused remains absconding, and efforts to locate and apprehend him are ongoing.
A 500-page charge sheet has been filed against the accused at the Cantonment Court in Wanawadi, detailing the sequence of events and evidence gathered in the case.
Identification Process and Legal Proceedings
The identification parade was conducted at Yerawada Jail, where the victim and her injured male friend identified Shoaib Akhtar and Chandrakumar Kanojia as the perpetrators. Following their identification, the police proceeded with filing the charge sheet.
Authorities have emphasized the urgency of ensuring swift justice in this case. In response, the government has appointed senior advocate Ujjwala Pawar as the Special Public Prosecutor to oversee the legal proceedings and ensure an expedited trial.
