Brutal Robbery in Junnar: Elderly Couple Assaulted, Gold and Cash Looted

Pune: An elderly couple in Junnar Taluka was brutally assaulted and robbed at their residence in Shiroli Sultanpur on Monday (December 30) night. The robbers looted approximately 12 tolas of gold jewelry, valued at around ₹6 lakh, and ₹1.2 lakh in cash. Both victims, critically injured in the attack, are undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Narayangaon.

The victims, Tulsiram Ganpat Atkari (72) and his wife Jijabai Tulsiram Atkari (65), lived alone at their farmhouse in Jagdale Estate. According to initial reports, the robbers had been observing the couple's movements. At around 2 AM, they broke into the house by forcing open the kitchen door latch and immediately started assaulting the elderly couple with wooden sticks.

Brutal Assault and Robbery Details

The robbers forcibly snatched the gold necklace from Jijabai’s neck. When they were unable to remove her earrings, they tore them off violently, causing severe injuries to her ears. The couple also suffered head injuries due to the repeated blows with wooden sticks, requiring Jijabai to receive 12 stitches on her head and ears.

The robbers further looted a gold ring from Jijabai’s hand, additional ornaments from a locker, and ₹1.2 lakh in cash before fleeing the scene.

Victims Left Unconscious

Both Tulsiram and Jijabai fell unconscious due to the violent assault. After some time, Tulsiram regained consciousness and managed to alert their neighbors by phone. The neighbors rushed to their aid and immediately informed the Narayangaon police.

Police Investigation Underway

Assistant Police Inspector Mahadev Shelar from Narayangaon police station arrived at the scene with a dog squad and fingerprint experts to gather evidence. Sub-Inspector J. Patil is leading the investigation.
