Pune: Two individuals were arrested by the Dehu Road police for demanding an extortion amount of ₹40 lakh in exchange for withdrawing complaints filed against a residential construction project. A third accomplice has also been booked in connection with the case.
According to the police, complainant Pradeep Chavan had started the construction of a residential project, Tattvam Residency, in Ravet. In an attempt to halt this project, the accused filed multiple complaints in different government offices, including the Building Department of Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC).
To settle these complaints, Kiran Gavli allegedly sent Dhanraj Shinde to Chavan’s office at Vinayaka Nagari Cooperative Credit Society on February 12 at 11:45 AM.
Shinde reportedly demanded ₹40 lakh from Chavan, stating that if he wished to have good relations with Gavli and Deshpande, he would need to pay the extortion amount. Furthermore, Shinde allegedly threatened to kill Chavan if the demand was not met.
Following Chavan’s complaint, the police examined CCTV footage from the office, which provided key evidence in the case. Based on this, the police arrested Gavli and Deshpande, while Shinde remains at large. The case is currently being investigated by Sub-Inspector Jaibhaye, and further legal proceedings are underway.
