Pune city police have arrested the son of a prominent builder for allegedly extorting Rs 47 lakh from his father’s construction company and threatening the former president of the Pune Bar Association. The arrest follows a detailed investigation into a series of financial irregularities and intimidation tactics that have raised concerns about internal disputes and criminal intimidation in high-profile circles.
According to police sources, the accused, identified as the son of a well-known Pune-based builder, allegedly siphoned off Rs 47 lakh from his father’s real estate firm over several months. The extortion reportedly involved the use of forged documents, manipulation of company accounts, and unauthorized transfers to personal accounts.
The situation escalated when the accused began threatening the former president of the Pune Bar Association, who was serving as the company’s legal advisor. The threats were allegedly made to prevent the advisor from exposing the financial discrepancies and to coerce him into silence regarding the ongoing misappropriation.
The case came to light after the builder and the former Bar Association president jointly filed a complaint with the Pune police. The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) launched an immediate investigation, gathering documentary evidence, bank statements, and digital communication records that substantiated the allegations.
Based on the evidence, police arrested the builder’s son from his residence in Pune. During questioning, the accused reportedly confessed to the extortion and admitted to threatening the legal advisor. Police have also seized electronic devices and financial records for further forensic analysis.
The incident has sent shockwaves through Pune’s real estate and legal circles, with many expressing concern over the breach of trust and the use of threats in professional disputes. The Pune Bar Association has condemned the threats against its former president, calling for strict action and greater safeguards for legal professionals.
The builder, while expressing shock and disappointment, stated, “This has been a painful episode for our family and business. We are cooperating fully with the authorities and hope for a fair resolution.”
