A man's story about a disturbing encounter with a woman he met on the dating app Bumble has gone viral online, after he alleged that she showed up at his home without an invitation and left a handwritten note on his doorstep.
The 28-year-old shared his story in Reddit’s Bumble community, explaining how what seemed like a normal first date quickly escalated into a situation that left him feeling unsafe.
First date started off well
The Reddit post states that the man matched with a 30-year-old woman named Ruth. They allegedly bonded over shared interests such as fitness, movies, and outdoor activities before deciding to meet in person. Their first date involved coffee followed by a workout session at his gym. He picked her up and initially believed the meeting was going smoothly.
However, as they continued talking, he discovered details that led him to believe they were not a good match. He said the woman admitted she had used her middle name on her Bumble profile because English is not her first language. He also noticed photos of a child on her phone, and she then explained that she had a son and had recently separated after an eight-year marriage.
Rejection leads to persistent contact
According to reports, the woman proposed meeting again the next day at a Cuban restaurant for drinks and dancing, but he turned down the invitation.
Once he got back home, the man chose to respectfully break things off via a text message.
When I got home, I texted her that it had been nice to see her, but I didn’t feel a spark and decided to end things, he wrote.
He said the reaction was swift and intense, alleging that the woman repeatedly phoned and messaged him, insisting on an explanation for why he no longer wished to continue dating her.
He claimed that even after he asked her to stop contacting him, she called him about ten times that night before he finally blocked her number.
Calls continue from multiple numbers
The man asserted that blocking the number did not stop the communication.
The following day, he reported receiving around 20 missed calls from various phone numbers. Multiple voicemails, which seemed to be from the same woman, allegedly urged him to return her call and justify his decision.
The continued attempts to reach him left him increasingly uncomfortable, he wrote.
Woman allegedly appears at his house
The matter intensified when, one morning, his mother woke him and told him that a woman was outside their house asking for him.
The Reddit user claimed the visitor was Ruth and said his mother informed her that he was not home.
Before departing, the woman is said to have left a handwritten note at the doorstep.
Handwritten note raises concerns
In her letter, the woman tried to justify her behavior and insisted she was not a stalker.
This is Ruth. I’m not sure you’ll ever read this, but at least I’m making the effort. I refuse to walk away without trying. I did everything I could to reach you, even asking my friends for your contact information. I’m not a stalker, and I won’t come back here, so don’t worry. I just needed three things: an explanation, clarity to remove all confusion, and a bit of peace with myself.."
Many readers were especially disturbed by the claim that his personal information had been obtained through friends.
The incident has also reignited conversations about privacy and safety on dating apps, with users reminding others to be cautious when sharing personal details such as home addresses, workplaces, and social media accounts with new matches.
